Guide and norms for the publication of articles in the Argentine Online Journal of Anatomy

The Argentine Online Journal of Anatomy is the scientific dissemination body of the Asociación Argentina de Anatomía.
Its purpose is the dissemination of Morphological Sciences and, therefore, it publishes original contributions related to said sciences. science and related subjects.

The Argentine Online Journal of Anatomy is indexed in the Latindex Catalog, among others.

Publication Fees

  • Full and Adherent Members of the Argentine Association of Anatomy with daily fee: No publication charge.
  • Non-Members: US$30 dollars or its equivalent in ARS pesos at the exchange value of the Banco de la Nación Argentina, per item, including color images.

Peer review process

The Argentine Online Journal of Anatomy uses a double review for the approval of the papers to be published.
The editor makes the first assessment of the manuscripts to verify that they meet the objectives of the journal and its regulations.
In the If the first evaluation is passed, a second one continues that evaluates the scientific quality of the manuscript. At least two independent reviewers and experts on the subject participate in this, and subsequently they recommend the acceptance, revision or rejection of the manuscript.

The final decision, considering the opinions of the Committee of Experts, is made by the Editor in Chief of the Journal.

Papers Categories

The Argentine Online Journal of Anatomy consists of the following basic sections:

  1. Editorial
  2. Original (*)
  3. Revision (**)
  4. Case report (***)
  5. Reviews and Biographies (****)
  6. Letter to the editor (*****)

Note: We recommend carefully reading the “General characteristics for paper content” that are developed later, and observe the particular specifications in the section “Paper development” for the category types indicated with asterisks (*) in the list above.

Sections 2 to 4 can be subdivided into different areas of interest, although they are not mutually exclusive:

  • Anatomy History
  • Locomotor System
  • Splanchnology
  • Neuroanatomy
  • Imaging Anatomy
  • Application of Anatomy
  • Anatomical Variations
  • Anatomical Techniques
  • Education and Teaching in Anatomy

The authors must suggest in the paper the section that they consider most appropriate to assess its publication, although it will be the Editorial Committee that determines the most appropriate option.

Submission of papers

The papers must be unpublished and not have been sent simultaneously to other journals or be accepted for publication.
In the event that they have been published partially, for example, as an abstract, this must be indicated in the manuscript.

Note: For the writing of the papers, the authors can use as a guide “Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals, updated Dec 2019” http://www.icmje.org produced by the Vancouver Group.

The papers will be accompanied by a cover letter addressed to the Director of the Argentina Online Journal of Anatomy, which will state the agreement of all the authors with the contents of the manuscript and the possible conflicts of interest with all of them.

        Submission of papers

The paper must be presented in the following way:

        Second page:

        Contains the Abstract and Keywords

        Abstract

It consists of a brief argumentative synthesis of the content of the paper.
The objective of the abstract is to provide a general overview to the reader who is looking for information about a specific topic, so that he can decide if the article meets his search needs without having to to read the entire article.
The abstract may not exceed 400 words, and the Spanish and English versions must be submitted

Depending on the presentation category, abstracts must contain:

        • Originals: Introduction, Material and methods, Results and Conclusions.

        Keywords

It consists of 5 (five) specific words that help define the content search in the text . These keywords favor the indexing of content in search engines such as Google.

        Third page onwards:

It contains the paper itself or the body of the article, which will be divided into sections, according to the category of publication:

        • Originals: Introduction, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions. (Maximum length 4,000 words).
        • Revisions: Introduction, Development (with the subtitles that the author deems convenient) and Conclusions. (Maximum length 3,500 words).

The manuscript will end, in the corresponding cases, with acknowledgments, aid or sources of total or partial financing, conflicts of interest (or their non-existence) and always with the Bibliographic References.

        Paper development

We recommend paying special attention to the category of the paper to be presented.

        Category: ORIGINAL (*)

The papers will present new relevant information based on quantitative techniques, description and/or statistical evaluation of own series from original research, or qualitative techniques, of special interest in education (ethnography, interview structures, etc.) and history (hermeneutics, etc. .).

The body of the text cannot exceed 4,000 words and must be structured according to the following model:

        • Introduction: It must clearly state the background and objective of the paper, as well as summarize the reasons that have motivated its realization.
Therefore, three parts could be considered: The first defines the problem, the second makes a brief account of what is known about the problem and in the third part the objectives of the work are presented, taking into account what has been developed in the previous paragraphs.
        • Materials and methods: Should clearly describe selection criteria for study material, objects/subjects, and study design.
Statistical evaluation methods should be clearly stated.
Provide sufficient detail to allow an independent researcher to reproduce the work.
If the methods are already published, the reference and a summary of the same should be included.
If changes have been made to a published method, they should be clearly described. The past tense is used.
If you have worked with human beings, you must have the approval of an ethics committee and you must record whether informed consent was given in prospective studies.
In the case of In the case of animals, it must have the approval of an ethics committee in animal experimentation.
        • Results: Only the most relevant data should be described and not repeated in the text if they have already been shown in tables or figures. The past tense is used.
        • Discussion: No data should appear that has not been described in the results.
You should discuss the meaning of the results, but not repeat them.
Avoid excessively long citations. Therefore, both the materials and the methods are discussed, and the validity of the results is examined.
In the first paragraph, the authors must present the answers to the question posed and what motivates the work. This allows the results to be placed in relation to previous knowledge and compared with the existing literature.
        • Conclusions: They must account for the research objectives and be based on the results, that is, the results of the study and their consequences are briefly summarized.
These must be rigorously derived from the results.
        • Bibliographical references: It must be updated.

        Category: Revision (**)

It is the updating of a topic or a technique that covers the latest concepts, as well as the eventual modification of new techniques.

In addition, this category includes works on related topics (legislation, etc.)
It considers the objective and the essential parts.
The bibliographical references can have a maximum of 80.
